Madison Future: Young Professionals Network

Followed by “Thirsty Thursday” Networking Event, Mavericks Restaurant

Attendance: See sign in sheet

Co-Chair Eggenspiller welcomed and thanked the members for attending.

Co-Chair Eggenspiller announced the Riverfront Development Committee currently has an opening on their board. As one of the 2010 goals to get MFYP members involved in their community, this is an excellent opportunity for us to get involved. If anyone is interested in volunteering to serve on this board please send a letter to Mayor Armstrong expressing your interest. Please carbon copy the Riverfront Development Committee.

An update was provided on the Chamber of Commerce annual dinner that was held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Co-Chair Ernstes gave an excellent presentation on MFYP and explained how it came to be with much appreciation going out to David Collier. She encouraged everyone in attendance to think about the young professionals in their businesses and their importance to the future of Madison and the surrounding areas. MFYP was also mentioned by outgoing president Ann Suchocki and incoming president Dr. Kevin Watkins. The network received many plugs throughout the evening. It was also mentioned that the chamber will be getting “back to basics”. After a discussion by the group, a consensus was reached for MFYP to support and assist the chamber wherever and whenever needed.

Other

The MFYP is partnering with Goodwill to sponsor a clothing drive during the month of February. Sandra Parke-Topolski described the details of the event. If anyone would like for their business to be a collection site please email Sandra your company logo. PR materials and information will be going out soon so please forward this information as soon as possible. The drive will be February 8th -19th. We would like to thank Sandra for coordinating this event.

Jake Stuart presented the members with information on the 3/50 Project. The idea behind the project is to “save your local economy…three stores at a time”. It works by choosing three independently owned stores you would miss if they closed and spend $50 each month between the three. Cinda Baxter is the founder of the project. For more information, visit 350project.net. Co-Chair Eggenspiller encouraged the members to research the project and express their comments on whether MFYP would like to endorse this project? If the project is supported PSA announcements are available for download and MFYP could be added as a supporter. We would like to thank Jake and Jeff for their time and materials on this project.

Jake Stuart also promoted MFYP by being a guest of Scott Murray Bate of 95.3 WIKI radio on January 20th. He spoke of MFYP events and the importance of this network. We would like to thank Jake for his participation helping promote MFYP.

Steve Rizzo stated the annual spring bridal fair will not take place in March. He asked if MFYP would be interested in sponsoring a bridal fair in November. After a discussion by the members a consensus was reached to sponsor this event. Steve will serve as the chair. Members are asked to volunteer for this event. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Until the launch of the website, MFYP is staying connected by direct emails and Facebook. Jake Stuart was asked to serve as the Facebook guru or “Special Media Director”. He accepted. The members thanked him.
